Sean Doherty, CEO
In 2008, I started WURL with David Martinez and my son (Sean) to help consumers with mobile and other connected devices find and experience the best content on web. The features and architecture of WURL were influenced by many of the products & companies I previously helped create.
In the late 80’s I founded Tradenet, where we invented instant messaging. In 1992, I founded Team Software where we developed a real-time group-messaging product for the Internet. After we sold Team in 1995, I became the founding COO of the @Home Network.
During the tech market downturn of 2002, I founded Odyssey Telecorp. Odyssey acquired and merged a group of fiber-based telecom services companies that most investors had shunned. In 2006, we sold the consolidated set of companies to Level3 Communications.
In addition to running WURL, Inc., I’m a partner at Odyssey and a board member at Fora.tv.
David Martinez, VP of Engineering
I am an early adopter, a technologist and a self-professed geek. I have worked in both coding and management at organizations as diverse as Katmango, Food.com and Bank of America. As VP of Engineering, I try to ensure that WURL’s fluffy code goodness continues to deliver a unique, satisfying experience to users and partners alike.
When I’m not WURLing, I continue to geek-out by practicing retro-computing, keeping up my skills, reading about world history and startup life, playing video games and hanging out with my wife and both of my little version 2.0s.

Sean Doherty, Jr., VP of Marketing
Just about everyone I know uses their phone much more than they use their computers. Our vision for WURL is to make the video experience on mobile even better than video on computers.
I’m currently enrolled in Undergraduate Business School at Boston College. At WURL, everyone does everything, but I’m mainly responsible for product marketing – especially the design and market testing of new features and functionality. I also helped create our amazing new ranking algorithm, “ChannelsRank.”
