Year in Review: Celebrating Wurl as a Top Workplace, and More!

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: it’s an incredibly exciting time to be a part of the streaming industry. Today, 93% of American adults access streaming video platforms, compared to only 40% who have a cable or satellite service. As a result, time spent on digital video will surpass TV for the first time in 2023.

At Wurl, this year has been no less thrilling – and it’s only August. Before we usher in PSL (pumpkin spice latte) season and trade our “Barbenheimer” mania for the year’s most anticipated horror flicks, let’s take a look back at some of 2023’s top moments.

Wurl makes SF Chronicle’s Top Workplaces in the Bay Area list

Starting off strong, we couldn’t be happier to be named one of San Francisco Chronicle’s Top Workplaces in the Bay Area. Only 128 companies in the region made this year’s list.

The best part of this recognition is that it’s based entirely on employee feedback. Wurlers emphasized our strong company culture and team dynamic as reasons why they ranked Wurl as a Top Workplace.

And – humble brag while we’re on the subject – it’s been a busy awards season beyond our Top Workplaces recognition. Wurl was named Best Publisher Platform by the Digiday Media Awards, as well as shortlisted for Ad Tech Company of the Year as part of the UK Business Tech Awards. Roll out the red carpet!

ContentDiscovery brings performance marketing to CTV

In May, Wurl launched ContentDiscovery – our most innovative tool to grow CTV viewership. Using AI, ContentDiscovery grows audiences, increases engagement, and reduces churn for streaming platforms and apps.

Churn is a real challenge facing the streaming industry with so many options for viewing content available today. In the US, 43% of consumers say they “already have as many subscriptions as they can use” for streaming content. And, streaming platforms aren’t just competing with each other: TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and more are all also in the ring battling it out for viewers’ attention.

Wurl launched ContentDiscovery to alleviate these challenges. By connecting content to the right viewers and keeping them engaged through targeted promos, streamers and publishers increase their chances of users downloading their apps, tuning in to their shows, and subscribing.

Events connect us with customer and partners around the globe

From the Las Vegas Strip to the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, our team has been around the world this year at industry events. We’ve connected with current and future clients and partners, hit the stage to share our perspectives on the streaming market, and enjoyed a craft cocktail or two at many a happy hours.

Live music and lawn games at our jam-packed Wurl-hosted happy hour

At The StreamTV Show in June, our thought leaders participated in discussions around data-driven advertising, FAST (free ad-supported streaming TV), and more before enjoying live music and lawn games at our jam-packed Wurl-hosted happy hour. Earlier in the year at Advertising Week Europe, we took to the stage to talk about key opportunities for the European streaming market and later welcomed attendees to – that’s right – another Wurl-hosted happy hour complete with a photobooth. What can we say – we like to have fun.

If the first half of 2023 is any indication of what the rest of the year will look like, we can’t wait to see what’s in store. Our year thus far wouldn’t be what it’s been without our incredible team, customers, and partners – so, thank you to everyone who has played a part in making it a success.
